Type of Rectiformer for Copper Electrolysis

AC-DC Rectifier
Utilizes a transformer to step down AC voltage before converting it to DC through rectification circuits. Designed for high-voltage, low-current applications.

Half-Wave Rectifier
Converts only the positive half of the AC waveform into DC using a single diode. One of the simplest rectifier configurations.

Full-Wave Center-Tapped Rectifier
Uses a center-tapped transformer and two diodes to utilize both halves of the AC cycle, doubling the output frequency and improving efficiency over half-wave designs.

Full-Wave Bridge Rectifier
Employs four diodes in a bridge configuration to convert the entire AC waveform into DC without requiring a center tap, offering greater flexibility and efficiency.

SCR Controlled Rectifier
Uses Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) to precisely regulate DC output by adjusting the firing angle, enabling variable voltage and current control.

Applications of Rectiformer for Copper Electrolysis

Copper Refining
The primary and most significant application of copper electrolysis rectifiers is in the electrorefining of crude copper. Copper extracted from mines typically contains only 85–90% pure copper, along with impurities such as iron, lead, nickel, and precious metals like gold and silver.

Metal Plating (Electroplating)
Electroplating is a widely used surface engineering technique in which a thin layer of copper is deposited onto a conductive substrate to improve corrosion resistance, enhance electrical conductivity, or prepare surfaces for further plating (e.g., nickel or chromium).

Battery Charging Systems
Industrial battery charging—especially for large lead-acid, lithium-ion, or nickel-cadmium batteries—requires stable DC power, which is efficiently provided by rectifiers. These systems are used in electric forklifts, mining vehicles, telecommunications backup systems, and renewable energy storage.

Nickel and Zinc Electrolysis
Similar to copper refining, the extraction and purification of nickel and zinc also depend on electrolytic processes powered by rectifiers. In nickel electrolysis, nickel sulfate or chloride solutions are used to deposit high-purity nickel (over 99.8%) onto cathodes, essential for stainless steel, batteries, and superalloys.

Metal Recovery and Recycling
Electrolysis rectifiers are increasingly vital in sustainable metal recovery operations. They enable the extraction of valuable metals from industrial wastewater, spent catalysts, electronic waste (e-waste), and tailings from previous mining activities.

Working Principle of Rectiformer for Copper Electrolysis

Electrolytic cell

The electrolytic copper rectifier usually consists of an electrolytic cell, which contains an electrolyte, usually a copper salt solution. The electrolytic cell usually consists of two electrodes (cathode and anode) and a power supply.

01

Electrolytic process

When alternating current is input into the rectifier, the power supply causes the copper salt ions in the electrolytic cell to release electrons at the anode to generate pure copper. At the same time, at the cathode, the electrolytic cell absorbs electrons and is reduced to copper ions.

02

Rectification effect

Through this electrolytic process, the rectifier actually separates the positive and negative cycles of the alternating current, so that the positive cycle flows out through the anode, and the negative cycle flows out through the cathode, thus forming a uniform direct current.

03

Output direct current

Finally, the rectifier will lead out this output direct current for use by electronic equipment.

How to Install a Rectiformer for Copper Electrolysis

01/

Select the Installation Site
Dry, cool, and well-ventilated to prevent overheating.Free from moisture, corrosive fumes, dust, and flammable materials.Accessible for operators and maintenance personnel.Equipped with sufficient space for the rectifier, electrolytic tanks, cabling, and airflow (minimum 500mm clearance on all sides).

02/

Mounting the Unit
Place it on a level, sturdy surface capable of supporting its full weight.
Use adjustable feet to level the unit and reduce vibration transmission.
Mount on anti-vibration pads or rubber isolators if located near heavy machinery.

03/

Electrical Connections
Turn off the main power supply before making any connections.
Connect the input terminals to the 3-phase AC power source (380V, 50/60Hz) using appropriately rated cables and breakers.

04/

Grounding
Connect the rectifier’s grounding terminal to the facility’s industrial grounding system using a low-resistance copper cable.Verify ground continuity with a multimeter before powering up.

05/

Output Adjustment & Calibration
Use a digital multimeter to verify output voltage and current under load.Adjust the current setpoint using the control panel to match the cathode surface area requirements.Refer to the manufacturer’s manual for calibration procedures and safety interlocks.

06/

Cooling System Check
If equipped with a cooling fan, confirm it is unobstructed and operational.Verify that ambient temperature is within the operating range (typically 0–40°C).For high-power units, ensure auxiliary cooling (e.g., air conditioning or forced ventilation) is functional.

Production Process Flow of Rectiformer for Copper

Copper Refining

Copper refining refers to the process of purifying crude copper (copper with high impurities) through physical or chemical methods to obtain high-purity copper. Coarse copper is usually extracted from copper ore by pyrometallurgy and contains various impurities such as gold, silver, iron, nickel, sulfur, etc. The main purpose of copper refining is to remove these impurities, improve the purity and performance of copper, and make it suitable for industrial applications. Copper refining is usually divided into two stages: pyrometallurgical refining and electrolytic refining.

Fire Refining

Melt crude copper and add oxidants (such as air or oxygen) to oxidize impurities (such as iron, sulfur, etc.). Impurities form oxides, float on the surface of the copper liquid, form slag, and are removed. The remaining copper with a purity of about 98-99% is called anode copper and is used for subsequent electrolytic refining.

Electrolytic Copper

Make the anode copper obtained by pyrometallurgical refining into an anode plate and place it in an electrolytic cell. The electrolytic cell contains electrolytes of copper sulfate (CuSOx) and sulfuric acid (H ₂ SOx). After being powered on, the anode copper dissolves, and copper ions (Cu ² ⁺ ) migrate to the cathode and deposit as high-purity copper on the cathode. Electrolytic copper is the final product of copper refining. Electrolytic refining is the final step in copper refining, determining the final purity of copper.
